Poor Mick Bates, eh? What rotten timing, to have a night out go completely Pete Tong for an AM right at the worst possible moment, when the Welsh Lib Dems are trying to have a nice bit of upbeat conference coverage.
Oh, hang on. If you squint at this article you'll see that although it was written this morning, the incident in question happened on the 20th of January. Wonder why it wasn't considered news til over two weeks later then? I'm seething.

People (including the press) need to be careful about jumping the gun.
I understand that Mick suffered a head injury when he fell out of the restaurant. Even if the fall was the result of excess alcohol - so that he was partially to blame - it may be that he had concussion or other head trauma that affected his behaviour.
Before people rush to accuse him of anything, they'd better be sure that they know the medical circumstancs.
The BBC coverage is much more detailed, peppered with quotes from the paramedic who is making the allegations and intending to press charges. I don't want to call the guy a liar, but it is hard to imagine from what I know of Mick that he would behave this way. He's a sweet, daft, lovable character. And even from the paramedic's account of the incident, it rather sounds to me as if yes he overreacted (which he's apologised for), but he was hurt, confused, and couldn't make himself understood that he didn't want to receive medical attention or go to hospital.
